evacuation/important items in box/ woman with only child says/you had more time than we did/important item holds hand

i wrote this tanka after being evacuated in 2007 by the wildfires in san diego. i was in a hotel elevator with my box of possessions when a woman entered with only her child, all she had time to save. the only possession worth anything.

inside of the mind/lies a landscape of colors/ the paintings of  life
