a world of creatures who live the dreams of those who no longer sleep. who dance to the rhythm heard in the interval of a hearts beat (artists and visionairies)
moon is nights lantern/darkness pulled tight as bedding/breeze hums lullabyemulticolored quilt/ embroidered flower faces/ covers springs warm bed/ rustle of hummingbird wings/rubies on duvet cover (tanka)brushes replace gloves /the ring has become canvas/ lip tastes red of paint. (haiku, wrestling in the blue)exploring minds rooms/ labyrinth of doors shut tight/ empty corridors/ years of ceaseless wandering/ to arrive back in foyer

i wrote this tanka after being evacuated in 2007 by the wildfires in san diego. i was in a hotel elevator with my box of possessions when a woman entered with only her child, all she had time to save. the only possession worth anything.
